GrassFed beef
Our cows are grazed in pasture year round and supplemented with hay in the winter. We do not feed grain to our beef animals at any time. Grass feeding improves the quality of beef and makes the beef richer in omega-3 fats, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid - a beneficial fatty acid that has anti-carcinogenic properties). Read more about the benefits of grassfed beef here.
Our beef herd consists primarily Dexter and Jersey cross steers. Jersey steers are raised by hand from our raw dairy herd share mommas and the Dexter crosses are either ours or sourced locally from our father herd and/or herds that our former employees now manage. Dexter are a native breed originally from the South West of Ireland and thought to be descended from Celtish black cattle. Dexters first arrived in Oxfordshire, England in 1882. Happily now, off the Rare Breed at Risk register for about 30 years these small hardy beasts are dual purpose, raised for milking and beef.
We offer USDA inspected Grassfed Beef by-the-cut through Glade Road Growing's online farm store. Additionally, we have a waiting list for 1/2 or whole beef purchases. Please contact us for more information.
