Why goats?! Did you know that goat meat (also called "chevon" or "cabrito") is the most consumed meat - accounting for over 70% of red meat eaten globally? By eating brush and weeds, goats remove competition for soil nutrients which helps to restore pasture quality. Additionally, goats require less space than cattle, thus you can have more goats on a piece of land than cattle. But is cabrito good for you?
In terms of nutritional value, cabrito offers a healthy alternative. Goat meat is extremely low in fat; in fact, the only meat (white or red) to have less fat is ostrich at 2.8 percent (goat – 3%, turkey – 5.0%, chicken – 7.4%, beef – 18.8%). Moreover, goat meat has less calories and cholesterol than chicken, beef, pork, or lamb... this means cabrito is delicious AND healthy! Never cooked with goat?... here's a link to some delicious recipes.
Most importantly, at HHF we care about our animals! We raise our goats naturally on three main ingredients: sunshine, green pasture forage, and clean fresh water. Every day our animals are moved to fresh pasture so they are never in the same place for long. This provides a continuous source of browsing options for HAPPY animals!
